The New Territory

『The New Territory』は、TNTが新たなヴォーカリストを迎え、ロニー・ル・テクロの流麗なギターを軸に、洗練されたメロディック・ハードを鳴らした作品だ。トニー・ハーネルの後任として、イギリスのシャイなどで活躍したトニー・ミルズが加入し、その表現力豊かな歌声がバンドに新たな彩りをもたらした。曲には確かな技巧があるが、常にメロディの流れが優先されており、聴きやすさと演奏の充実が両立している。 “A Constitution”“Are You Blind?”“Golden Opportunity”“Something Special”といった楽曲は、透明感のあるバラードと力強いロック曲を自然に行き来し、アルバムに豊かな起伏を与えている。ミルズの歌はハーネルとは異なる味わいを持ちながらも、TNTのメロディアスな世界観に見事に溶け込んでいる。“Now We're Talkin'”“Wild Life”“Fountain of Love”“Milestone River”といった楽曲でも、力強いロックと繊細なメロディが自然に共存している。ヴォーカリストの交代という変化の時期にありながら、北欧ハード・ロックの美点を成熟した演奏で伝えた本作は、新体制での確かな再出発を示す一枚である。

The New Territory is a record on which TNT, welcoming a new vocalist, played refined melodic hard rock around Ronni Le Tekrø’s flowing guitar. As Tony Harnell’s successor, Tony Mills — who had made his name in England’s Shy — joined, and his expressive voice brought fresh color to the band. The songs have firm technique, but the flow of melody is always prioritized, balancing accessibility with full musicianship. Songs such as “A Constitution,” “Are You Blind?,” “Golden Opportunity” and “Something Special” move naturally between translucent ballads and strong rock numbers, giving the album rich shape. Mills’ singing has a flavor different from Harnell’s yet blends splendidly into TNT’s melodic worldview. Conveying the virtues of Nordic hard rock with mature playing even in a period of change with a new singer, it is a record showing a firm restart under the new lineup.
