『Renaissance Men』は、THE WILDHEARTSが長い間隔を経て届けたスタジオ作であり、パンクの衝動、パワー・ポップのメロディ、ヘヴィなギターを短い曲の中へ高密度に詰め込んでいる。ジンジャーの歌と作曲は、皮肉と切なさを同じ勢いで投げ込んでいる。約10年ぶりとなる新作でありながら、バンドの持ち味は少しも失われていない。 “Dislocated”“Diagnosis”“My Kinda Movie”“Emergency (Fentanyl Babylon)”といった楽曲では、荒々しく走りながらも、コーラスには驚くほど甘い旋律がある。“Let 'Em Go”“Little Flower”のような楽曲にも、バンドの確かなメロディ・センスが息づいている。“The Renaissance Men”“Fine Art of Deception”“My Side of the Bed”“Pilo Erection”といった楽曲にも、バンドの充実した創造力が息づいている。約10年ぶりの新作は多くのファンとメディアから熱狂的に迎えられ、混沌とメロディの共存という彼らの真骨頂を鮮やかに示し、バンドの健在を高らかに示した。音数が多くても散漫にならず、各曲が鋭いフックでまとまっている。バンドの混沌とポップ感覚が再び見事に噛み合った、勢いのある復帰作である。

Renaissance Men is a studio work THE WILDHEARTS delivered after a long interval, densely packing punk impulse, power-pop melody and heavy guitar into short songs. Ginger’s singing and songwriting throw in irony and wistfulness with the same momentum. A new album after roughly ten years, yet the band’s character is not lost in the least. On “Dislocated,” “Diagnosis,” “My Kinda Movie” and “Emergency (Fentanyl Babylon),” while running rough, the choruses have surprisingly sweet melody. Songs like “Let 'Em Go” and “Little Flower” breathe the band’s firm melodic sense too. Even with many notes, it does not become diffuse, each song pulling together with a sharp hook. It is a comeback work with momentum, on which the band’s chaos and pop sense mesh splendidly once again.
