House of Dreams

『House of Dreams』は、SUNSTORMが上質なAORとメロディック・ロックの魅力を、きめ細かなアレンジで提示した第2作だ。2009年4月にフロンティアーズから発表され、デニス・ウォードが再びプロデュースとベースを担当。ウーヴェ・ライテナウアーに加えてトルステン・ケーネがギター・ソロを、グンター・ヴェルノがキーボードを受け持ち、クリス・シュミットがドラムを叩く。柔らかなキーボード、艶のあるギター、力まずに届くヴォーカルが、曲に心地よい流れをつくる。 締めの“Walk On”は、ターナーがデズモンド・チャイルドと共作し、1987年にジミー・バーンズへ提供したバラードの本人版だ。ジム・ペテリックは“Say You Will”“Gutters of Gold”などを寄せ、トムとジェイムズのマーティン兄弟が“Divided”“House of Dreams”ほか4曲を書き下ろした。ターナー自身の秘蔵曲も“Forever Now”“I Found Love”として日の目を見る。派手な重さより、メロディと空気感の美しさに重心があり、バラードの比重も高い。夕暮れや夜のドライブに似合う、温かく洗練された充実の一枚だ。

House of Dreams is the second album, presenting the appeal of high-quality AOR and melodic rock through fine-grained arrangements. Released on Frontiers in April 2009, with Dennis Ward again on production and bass. Alongside Uwe Reitenauer, Thorsten Koehne takes the guitar solos, Gunter Werno handles keyboards, and Chris Schmidt plays drums. Soft keyboards, lustrous guitar and vocals that arrive without strain give the songs a comfortable flow. The closing “Walk On” is Turner's own version of the ballad he co-wrote with Desmond Child and gave to Jimmy Barnes in 1987. Jim Peterik contributed “Say You Will” and “Gutters of Gold,” while brothers Tom and James Martin wrote four including “Divided” and “House of Dreams.” Turner's own vault songs also see daylight as “Forever Now” and “I Found Love.” Rather than flashy weight, the center of gravity is the beauty of melody and atmosphere, with ballads weighing heavily. A warm, refined record suited to dusk or a night drive.
