Brothers in Arms

『Brothers in Arms』は、ロニー・ロメロを迎えたSUNSTORMが、従来のAOR的な滑らかさにより太いハード・ロックの輪郭を与えた第7作だ。2022年にフロンティアーズから発表。ドロやブレイズでの活動で知られるルカ・プリンチョッタが、3作を支えたシモーネ・ムラローニに代わってギターに加わり、アレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオ(鍵盤/プロデュース)、ニック・マッツコーニ(ベース)、ミケーレ・サンナ(ドラム)が支える。前作の好評を受け、2021年後半から翌年初頭にかけて一気に作り上げられた。 高揚感のあるヴォーカルとメロディの明快さは保ちつつ、ギターの存在感とリズムの押し出しが増している。レーベルはレインボーやディープ・パープルの旋律とフォリナー的な感触の融合と評した。先行シングルとなった表題曲や“No Turning Back”の勢い、“I Will Remember”“Miracle”の親しみやすさ、アコースティック寄りの“Back My Dreams”が並ぶ。同年秋にはライヴ作『Still Roaring』も続いた。人懐こいメロディック・ロックを好む人にも、より力強い歌唱を求める人にも届く一枚だ。

Brothers in Arms is the seventh album, on which Sunstorm with Ronnie Romero gave the old AOR smoothness a thicker hard-rock outline. Released on Frontiers in 2022. Luca Princiotta, known for his work with Doro and Blaze, joined on guitar in place of Simone Mularoni, who had supported three albums, with Alessandro Del Vecchio (keyboards/production), Nik Mazzucconi (bass) and Michele Sanna (drums) behind him. Following the warm reception of the previous record, it was crafted quickly from late 2021 into early the next year. The uplifting vocals and clarity of melody remain, while guitar presence and rhythmic push increase. The label described it as fusing the melody of Rainbow and Deep Purple with a Foreigner-like feel. The drive of the advance-single title track and “No Turning Back,” the approachability of “I Will Remember” and “Miracle,” and the acoustic-leaning “Back My Dreams” line up. That autumn a live record, Still Roaring, followed. A record that reaches both those who like friendly melodic rock and those wanting more powerful singing.
