Restless Fight

『Restless Fight』は、SUNSTORMがAOR的な洗練とメロディック・ハードの力強さを結び付けた第8作だ。2024年にフロンティアーズから発表された。長らく中核だったアレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオが離れ、シークレット・スフィアのアルド・ロノビレがギターとプロデュースを担当。アンドレア・アルカンジェリ(ベース)、アントニオ・アガーテ(キーボード)、アルフォンソ・モチェリーノ(ドラム)が加わり、過去作から残るのはロニー・ロメロだけという全面刷新となった。ロメロにとっては3枚目の参加作である。 厚いヴォーカル、整ったコーラス、鍵盤の彩り、硬すぎないギターが、夜景のような光沢を持つサウンドを作る。初期作のAOR感を軸に、80年代流のギターと鍵盤のアレンジで力強さを足すという方針が掲げられた。派手なスピードよりも、曲が持つ温度と余韻が大切にされている。それでもサビは明確で、リズムには前へ進む力があるため、しっとりしすぎることはない。オジー・オズボーンの“Shot in the Dark”のカヴァーも収められた。大人びたメロディック・ロックを、現代的な音で楽しみたい人に向く充実の一枚である。

Restless Fight is the eighth album, tying AOR polish to the force of melodic hard rock. Released on Frontiers in 2024. Alessandro Del Vecchio, long the core, departed, and Secret Sphere's Aldo Lonobile took over guitar and production. Andrea Arcangeli (bass), Antonio Agate (keyboards) and Alfonso Mocerino (drums) joined, making it a complete overhaul in which Ronnie Romero is the only holdover from any prior album. For Romero it's his third record with the project. Thick vocals, tidy choruses, keyboard color and guitar that isn't too hard build a sound with a night-view sheen. The stated approach was to keep the early records' AOR feel at the center while adding force through '80s-style guitar and keyboard arrangement. Rather than flashy speed, the songs' warmth and afterglow are valued. Even so the choruses are clear and the rhythm has forward drive, so it never gets too subdued. A cover of Ozzy Osbourne's “Shot in the Dark” is also included — a satisfying record for enjoying grown-up melodic rock in a modern sound.
