Survive

本作『Survive』は、長い活動休止を経て、STRATOVARIUSが得意とする高速ドラム、きらびやかで華麗なキーボード、そして空へと抜けるような、爽快なコーラスを、再び力強く前面へと打ち出した復活作だ。メロディック・パワー・メタルの王道を、忠実に守りながらも、ギターの重量感や、全体の音作りには、より現代的で、力強い質感が加わっている。ベテランならではの、確かな貫禄がみなぎる一枚である。 冒頭を飾る、力強い表題曲“Survive”の疾走感、“Demand”のドラマ性、そして“Firefly”“World On Fire”“Frozen in Time”のような曲まで、収録曲はいずれも、バンドの健在ぶりを高らかに告げる、明るく力強いエネルギーに満ちている。「生き残る」ことを題材にした歌詞の、切実な緊張感も含め、聴き応えは十分だ。 数々の困難を乗り越えてもなお、バンドが本来持っている、希望に満ちたスピードと、輝かしいメロディの魅力を、改めて力強く確認することができる一枚だ。長いキャリアを経てなお、その創作意欲と演奏の質は、少しも衰えていない。伝統的な様式美を守りつつ、現代的な力強さも加えた、円熟のSTRATOVARIUSによる、充実した復活作と言える。ファン待望の一枚である。

Survive is a comeback record on which, after a long hiatus, Stratovarius again powerfully puts forward the high-speed drums, glittering, flamboyant keyboards and sky-piercing, brisk choruses it does best. While faithfully keeping the straight path of melodic power metal, a more modern, powerful texture is added to the guitar weight and the overall production. A record filled with the sure dignity particular to veterans. From the speed of the powerful opening title track “Survive” and the drama of “Demand” to cuts like “Firefly,” “World On Fire” and “Frozen in Time,” every song is full of bright, powerful energy loftily announcing the band’s vigor. Including the earnest tension of lyrics themed on “surviving,” it is amply engaging. A record on which, even having overcome many difficulties, you can again powerfully reaffirm the hope-filled speed and radiant melodic appeal the band natively holds. Even after a long career, its creative drive and playing quality have not dimmed in the least. Keeping traditional stylistic beauty while adding modern power, it is a fulfilling comeback by mature Stratovarius — a fan-awaited record.
