『Nemesis』は、STRATOVARIUSが高速のリズム、流麗なギター、そしてシンセサイザーの華やかな煌めきに、より現代的な、電子音の感覚を大胆に加えた作品だ。伝統的なパワー・メタルの、高揚感あふれる魅力を、しっかりと保ちながらも、その音色や、グルーヴには、これまでとは異なる、新しい輪郭が与えられている。ベテランとなってなお、常に進化を続けようとする、バンドの意志が感じられる一枚である。 冒頭“Abandon”の力強い疾走感、キャッチーな“Unbreakable”、そして“Halcyon Days”“Fantasy”“Stand My Ground”のような曲まで、収録曲はいずれも、確かなメロディの強さを備えている。大きく開かれたサビと、細部まで緻密に整理された、モダンなアレンジとの、絶妙なバランスが、実に心地よい。 単なる、過去の様式の焼き直しに終わることなく、現在進行形のバンドとしての、明確な意志と、進化への意欲を、力強く感じさせてくれる点が本作の魅力だ。疾走感だけに頼るのではなく、現代的なサウンド・プロダクションを積極的に取り込むことで、その表現の幅を広げている。ベテランSTRATOVARIUSの、円熟と挑戦が同居した、充実したパワー・メタル作品と言える。

Nemesis is a work on which Stratovarius boldly adds a more modern, electronic sense to high-speed rhythm, fluid guitar and the flamboyant glitter of synthesizers. While firmly keeping the lift-filled appeal of traditional power metal, its timbre and groove are given a new outline different from before. A record where the will of a band that keeps seeking to evolve even as veterans can be felt. From the powerful speed of the opener “Abandon” and the catchy “Unbreakable” to cuts like “Halcyon Days,” “Fantasy” and “Stand My Ground,” every song holds a sure strength of melody. The exquisite balance of widely opened choruses and a modern arrangement precisely organized down to the details feels truly good.
