The Serpent

『The Serpent』が出たのは2007年8月7日、レーベルは前作と同じロードランナーだった。ここでT・J・ミラーの歌い方が変わる。叫びの比重が下がり、旋律を歌う場面が明確に増えた。先行シングル“Stay Captive”は英国の音楽専門局スカズで繰り返し流れ、続く“Dancing with the Enemy”は彼らにとって唯一の英国チャート入りをもたらした曲になる。規模は小さいが、この一曲が届いた範囲は本国より海の向こうで広かった。 そして、これが最後のアルバムになるはずだった。2007年秋にエイデン、11月に英国でアトレイユの前座を務め、2008年1月から2月にはブレット・フォー・マイ・ヴァレンタインの帯同枠に36クレイジーフィスツの代役として入る。春の「ザ・サーペント・ツアー」を最後に、3月25日、バンドは解散を告げた。「素晴らしい道のりだったが、個人的な理由で終わりだ。互いを憎んでいるわけでも、殴りたいわけでもない。ただ、それぞれ別のことへ進む時が来ただけだ」。最終公演は7月のコーナーストーン・フェスティバルだった。

The Serpent arrived on 7 August 2007, again on Roadrunner. This is where T.J. Miller's singing changed: the screaming receded and melodic singing came clearly forward. The lead single "Stay Captive" was played heavily on the British channel Scuzz, and the follow-up, "Dancing with the Enemy," gave them their only UK chart placing. It was a minor one, but that single travelled further abroad than at home. And this was supposed to be the last album. They supported Aiden in the autumn of 2007 and Atreyu in Britain that November, then in January and February 2008 stepped in for 36 Crazyfists on a Bullet for My Valentine tour. After the Serpent Tour that spring, on 25 March, the band announced they were finished: it had been an amazing run, they said, but they were done for personal reasons — nobody hated anybody, nobody wanted to punch anybody, it was simply time to move on to other things. Their final performance came at the Cornerstone festival that July.
