Slipknot

『Slipknot』は、爆発的なリズムと混沌としたアンサンブルで、SLIPKNOTが極端な怒りと緊張を刻んだデビュー作だ。バンドはアメリカ・アイオワ州デモインで1995年に結成された、覆面をまとう9人組である。各メンバーはつなぎの作業着とマスクを身にまとい、番号で識別されるという、他に類を見ないスタイルで登場した。プロデュースはロス・ロビンソンが手掛けた。本作はアメリカのビルボード200で51位に達し、やがてダブル・プラチナに認定された。Ozzfestへの出演も、彼らの名を全米に広めるきっかけとなった。 “Wait and Bleed”“Spit It Out”“Surfacing”といった、激烈な楽曲が並ぶ。ヴォーカルのコリィ・テイラーを中心に、ターンテーブルやパーカッションを大胆に取り込んだ、破壊的で密度の高いサウンドが炸裂している。本作はニューメタルの時代を象徴する一枚となり、後のシーンに絶大な影響を与えた。極限の攻撃性を刻んだ、彼らの衝撃的な出発点である。混沌と怒りをそのまま音にした本作は、後続の無数のバンドに道を切り開いた。今なお色褪せることのない、一つの時代を定義した名盤である。

Slipknot is the debut, on which Slipknot carved extreme anger and tension with explosive rhythms and a chaotic ensemble. The band is a nine-piece masked group formed in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, in 1995. Each member appeared in coveralls and a mask, identified by a number, in an utterly unprecedented style. Production was handled by Ross Robinson. The album reached No. 51 on the US Billboard 200 and was eventually certified double platinum. Their appearance at Ozzfest also helped spread their name across America. Ferocious songs like "Wait and Bleed," "Spit It Out" and "Surfacing" line up. Centered on vocalist Corey Taylor, a destructive, dense sound bursts out, boldly incorporating turntables and percussion. The album became a record symbolizing the nu-metal era and hugely influenced the later scene. Their shocking starting point, carving extreme aggression. Turning chaos and anger directly into sound, it opened the way for countless bands that followed. A classic that defined an era and has never faded.
