Eagle Flight

『Eagle Flight』は、REVOLUTION SAINTSの第2期による最初の作品だ。2022年、ジャック・ブレイズとダグ・アルドリッチが去った。残されたディーン・カストロノヴォは、その前年にジャーニーへ復帰したばかりで、歌う気力を取り戻していた。空いた二席に座ったのは、ホワイトスネイクとトランス・シベリアン・オーケストラのジョエル・ホークストラ(ギター)、そしてフォリナーに在籍し、かつてドッケンにいたジェフ・ピルソン(ベース)である。レーベルはこれを「第2期」と呼んだ。 先行シングル“Eagle Flight”が2022年11月28日、“Need Each Other”のヴィデオが翌年1月6日、そしてアルバムは2023年4月21日に出た。プロデュースと鍵盤は変わらずアレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオが担っており、この一点だけは第1期から一貫している。全10曲。“Talking Like Strangers”“Kids Will Be Kids”“Crime of the Century”と続く流れは、顔ぶれが変わってもジャーニー的な光沢を失わない。この企画の芯が最初からカストロノヴォの声だけだったことが、よく分かる一枚である。

Eagle Flight is the first record by the second incarnation of Revolution Saints. Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich left in 2022. Deen Castronovo, left holding it, had rejoined Journey the year before and had his appetite for singing back. Into the two empty chairs came Joel Hoekstra of Whitesnake and Trans-Siberian Orchestra on guitar, and Jeff Pilson — currently in Foreigner, formerly of Dokken — on bass. The label called this Mk II. The single “Eagle Flight” arrived on 28 November 2022, the video for “Need Each Other” on 6 January 2023, and the album on 21 April. Alessandro Del Vecchio still produces and plays keyboards, and that single thread runs unbroken from the first incarnation. There are ten tracks. The run through “Talking Like Strangers,” “Kids Will Be Kids” and “Crime of the Century” loses none of the Journey gloss for all the turnover. It makes plain what the core of this project always was: Castronovo's voice, and nothing else.
