Against the Winds

『Against the Winds』は、REVOLUTION SAINTSが2024年2月9日にフロンティアーズから発表した第5作である。編成は前作から動いていない。ディーン・カストロノヴォ(歌とドラム)、ジョエル・ホークストラ(ギター)、ジェフ・ピルソン(ベース)。プロデュースと鍵盤はアレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオが引き続き担った。第2期としては2作目にあたり、前作からわずか10か月足らずという間隔での投入だった。この回転の速さは、曲を用意して人を当てるフロンティアーズという制作体制そのものの性格でもある。 全11曲。疾走する表題曲が幕を開け、“Changing My Mind”“Fall on My Knees”と続く。この三曲にはいずれもヴィデオが作られた。“Lost in Damnation”の重さ、“Will I See You Again”の余韻、締めの“No Turning Back”まで、路線は一切変わらない。ジャーニー的な光沢を求める耳にはそのまま届くが、前作ほどの衝撃はない、これでは廉価版のジャーニーだという厳しい評も出た。それでもカストロノヴォの声がこの企画のすべてであるという事実だけは、5枚を通して一度も揺らいでいない。

Against the Winds is the fifth album, released by Frontiers on 9 February 2024. The line-up has not moved since the last one: Deen Castronovo (vocals and drums), Joel Hoekstra (guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass), with Alessandro Del Vecchio again producing and playing keyboards. It is the second record of the Mk II era and arrived barely ten months after its predecessor — a turnaround that is itself a property of the Frontiers method, where the songs are readied and the people are fitted to them. There are eleven tracks. The galloping title track opens, followed by “Changing My Mind” and “Fall on My Knees” — all three of which got videos. Through the weight of “Lost in Damnation,” the afterglow of “Will I See You Again” and the closing “No Turning Back,” the direction does not shift at all. For ears that want Journey gloss it lands directly, though some reviewers found it short of the previous record's impact and called it Journey on the cheap. Even so, the one thing that has never wavered across five albums is that Castronovo's voice is the whole of this project.
