『Spirit』は、RECKLESS LOVEが明るいシンセサイザー、派手なギター、歌いたくなるコーラスを詰め込んだグラム・ロック作品だ。2013年に発表され、本国チャートで3位という自己最高位を記録した。多くのファンや評者が、このバンドの頂点として挙げる一枚である。曲は軽快でポップだが、リフとリズムにはハード・ロックらしい押し出しがあり、単なる懐古には決してならない。デビュー作から数えて3作連続のゴールド獲得でもあり、本国での人気はこの時点で完全に定着していたことになる。 80年代の華やかさを現代のポップ感覚で磨き直し、聴き手を即座に高揚させる。“Night on Fire”と“So Happy I Could Die”がシングルとなり、いずれもバンドの代表曲となった。チープになる一歩手前で踏みとどまる曲作りの巧さと、演奏の確かさが同居している。楽しさを最優先にしながら、それを支える技術は一切妥協していない。この振り切り方こそが、彼らを同種の数多のバンドから明確に隔てているのだろう。北欧のバンドらしい音の抜けの良さも大きいはずだ。陽気でカラフルなロックンロールを楽しみたい時に、ぴったりの一枚である。

Spirit is a glam rock record packed with bright synthesizers, flashy guitar and choruses you want to sing. Released in 2013, it hit No. 3 at home — their own best.
