『Execution Guaranteed』は、速い刻みと緊迫したリズムを基盤に、RAGEがより大きな曲構成へ踏み込んだ作品だ。ピーヴィー・ワグナーの声とベースは前へ出て、二本のギターが切り替わるリフで緊張を作り出す。デビュー作の勢いを保ちながら、楽曲としての骨格が一段としっかりしてきたことが伝わる。
“Down by Law”“Streetwolf”のように直線的に疾走する曲がある一方、表題曲“Execution Guaranteed”や“Mental Decay”では、展開の中で重さと劇性を増していく。単純な速さだけでなく、緩急やリフの積み重ねで聴かせようとする意志が芽生えている。
まだ荒々しさは残るが、初期RAGEがスピード・メタルの枠内で表現の幅を広げようとしていた過程が、はっきりと刻まれている。“Before the Storm”“Deadly Error”に漂う緊迫感も印象的だ。“Grapes of Wrath”“When You're Dead”のような曲では、疾走の中にも荒々しい攻撃性がみなぎり、初期衝動の勢いをそのまま伝えている。ギターの刻みとリズムの推進力が、まだ粗削りながらも確かな一体感を生み出している。ジャーマン・メタルの速度感を保ちつつ、バンド独自の濃い表情を育てた重要な一枚である。
