Sonic Dynamite is a work on which PINK CREAM 69 condensed the appeal of melodic hard rock, centered on powerful vocals and a hard sound. David Readman’s powerful singing cuts through clearly even over heavy riffs. The songs are compact, yet the choruses have a big, stadium-scale expanse. Balancing a hard sound and accessible melody at a high level, it conveys that the band’s playing is used entirely in service of the songs. Rather than running to flashy technique, a stance of competing through the completion of each song and the strength of the hooks is striking. Entering the 2000s, the band’s passion and creativity for melodic hard rock have not dimmed in the least. Combining refinement and strength, it is a rewarding record that vividly shows the fullness of the Readman lineup.
