Endangered is a work on which PINK CREAM 69 brought together the melodic hard rock it excels at with a calm feel. David Readman’s singing is powerful and the guitar’s outline is sharp, yet the whole is carefully arranged toward bringing out the singing. A compositional sense cultivated over a long career gives the whole work a firm stability. While valuing hooks, by shifting the texture a little for each song, care is taken so the album does not turn monotonous. Rather than showing off technique, a stance of competing through the completion of the songs themselves is striking. The skill of the band’s central figure — bassist and producer Dennis Ward — firmly supports the quality of the sound too. Choosing steady fullness over flash, it is a flavorful record for savoring the deep appeal of melodic hard rock.
