Dark Horse is a work on which NICKELBACK bound heavy guitar riffs, dry beats and Chad Kroeger’s rough singing to larger hooks. While the songs are of simple design, the drive toward the choruses is strong, remaining in memory quickly. It is a record made welcoming star producer Mutt Lange. On “Gotta Be Somebody,” “If Today Was Your Last Day” and “Burn It to the Ground,” in both hard songs and ballads, the band does not lose melodic clarity.
