『...The Stories We Could Tell』は、MR. BIGが技巧的な演奏を見せながらも、曲の親しみやすさを最優先に置いた作品だ。ギターとベースは随所で鮮やかな動きを見せるが、主役はあくまで歌とコーラスである。バンドとしての会話が、そのまま楽曲の推進力になっている。再結成後の勢いを、さらに前進させた一枚である。 “Gotta Love the Ride”“Fragile”“The Stories We Could Tell”といった楽曲では、ポップなフック、ブルージーな温度、ハード・ロックの切れ味が自然に同居している。“I Forgot to Breathe”“Cinderella Smile”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。再結成後精力的に活動を続けるバンドの充実ぶりが本作にもよく表れており、熟練の4人が肩の力を抜いて楽しみながら演奏している様子が伝わる味わい深い一枚である。聴き進めるほどメンバー間の呼吸が伝わってくる。派手な技巧と人懐こいメロディを同時に楽しめる、MR. BIGらしい充実した一枚だ。円熟の域に達したバンドが余裕を持って自らの魅力を鳴らしており、技術を誇示するのではなく楽曲そのものの良さで聴かせる姿勢が全編を貫いている。

...The Stories We Could Tell is a work on which MR. BIG, while showing technical playing, placed the songs’ accessibility as the top priority. The guitar and bass show vivid movement throughout, but the leading role is always the singing and choruses. The band’s conversation becomes the very drive of the songs. It is a record that advanced the post-reunion momentum further. On “Gotta Love the Ride,” “Fragile” and “The Stories We Could Tell,” pop hooks, a bluesy warmth and hard-rock edge coexist naturally. Songs like “I Forgot to Breathe” and “Cinderella Smile” breathe the band’s full playing too. The further you listen, the more the chemistry between the members comes across. It is a full, characteristically MR. BIG record on which flashy technique and endearing melody can be enjoyed at once.
