『Too Fast for Love』は、MÖTLEY CRÜEが荒削りなギター、強いビート、危険なまでに派手なキャラクターを一気に打ち出したデビュー作だ。演奏には若さゆえの粗さがあるが、それが曲のスピード感と街の熱気をむしろ強めている。当初は自主レーベルからリリースされた、伝説の始まりを告げる一枚である。 “Live Wire”“Take Me to the Top”“Piece of Your Action”といった楽曲では、後のLAメタルへつながる感覚をすでに備えている。“Starry Eyes”“Stick to Your Guns”“On with the Show”のような楽曲にも、初期らしい衝動的な魅力が息づいている。ニッキー・シックスを中心に結成されたバンドはけばけばしいルックスと退廃的な生き様でたちまちシーンの話題をさらい、後にエレクトラと契約し再発された本作は彼らの伝説の幕開けを飾った。洗練よりも衝動を選んだことで、バンドの出発点を鮮烈に刻んでいる。ロサンゼルスのシーンを塗り替えることになる4人の、そのむき出しの原型がここにある。荒々しくも魅力にあふれたデビュー作だ。後にグラム・メタルの帝王となる彼らの、その衝動の原点がここに刻まれている。荒削りだが忘れがたい魅力を放つ一枚だ。

Too Fast for Love is the debut on which MÖTLEY CRÜE put forward, all at once, rough guitar, a strong beat and a dangerously flashy character. There is a roughness born of youth in the playing, but it rather strengthens the songs’ speed and the heat of the streets. It is a record announcing the start of a legend, originally released on an independent label. On “Live Wire,” “Take Me to the Top” and “Piece of Your Action,” they already have the feel that leads to later LA metal. Songs like “Public Enemy #1,” “Merry-Go-Round” and “Too Fast for Love” breathe an early, impulsive appeal too. By choosing impulse over refinement, they vividly carve the band’s starting point. Here is the raw prototype of the four who would repaint the Los Angeles scene. It is a rough yet appealing debut.
