As the Palaces Burn is a work on which LAMB OF GOD made high-pressure metal using low-chugging riffs, sharply switching rhythm and rough roars. Even as the songs move complexly, everything converges into a body-swaying groove. It is an important early work that made the band’s name widely known. On “Ruin,” “As the Palaces Burn” and “11th Hour,” hardcore-derived urgency and metal technique bind closely, and the playing always keeps a dangerous tension. Songs like “Purified,” “Boot Scraper” and “Blood Junkie” breathe the band’s full playing too. It is content that clarified the band’s core.
