On “Ruin,” “As the Palaces Burn” and “11th Hour,” hardcore-derived urgency and metal technique bind closely, and the playing always keeps a dangerous tension. Songs like “Purified,” “Boot Scraper” and “Blood Junkie” breathe the band’s full playing too. It is content that clarified the band’s core. Highly praised by critics too, it became an important step toward their breakthrough. It is a powerful record.
