『Take a Look in the Mirror』は、KORNが、低くうねる重いギター、跳ねるベース、そして、ジョナサン・デイヴィスの痛みを帯びた歌を駆使し、より直接的で、荒々しい音を作り上げた、充実の作品だ。前作の、あの緻密なプロダクションから一転し、バンド自身がプロデュースを手がけ、初期の、あの生々しい攻撃性を、力強く呼び戻している。楽曲は、重く、短く押し寄せ、内面の、深い不安を、決して隠すことなく、そのまま表へと出していく。より衝動的な一枚である。 冒頭“Right Now”の攻撃性、そして“Break Some Off”のドラマ性、さらに、映画のテーマにもなった人気曲“Did My Time”まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“Everything I've Known”、そして“Here It Comes Again”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。ナズが参加した楽曲など、その幅広さも示している。ジョナサン・デイヴィスの、感情的な歌唱が光る。 実験的な要素を、しっかりと残しながらも、その焦点は、あくまで、バンドの、あの身体的で力強いグルーヴに、しっかりと置かれている一枚だ。激しい緊張と、確かなカタルシスとを、強く結び付けている。初期の攻撃性と、円熟した実力とを両立させた、KORNの、聴き応えのある一枚と言える。バンドの原点回帰が光る一枚だ。

Take a Look in the Mirror is a fulfilling work on which Korn, using low, undulating heavy guitar, bouncing bass and Jonathan Davis’s pain-tinged singing, built a more direct, rough sound. Turning from the previous work’s precise production, the band self-produced and powerfully called back the early raw aggression. The songs surge heavily and shortly, putting the deep inner anxiety straight out without hiding it. A more impulsive record. From the aggression of the opener “Right Now” and the drama of “Break Some Off” to the popular “Did My Time,” which became a film theme, every song is engaging, while cuts like “Everything I’ve Known” and “Here It Comes Again” convey the work’s fullness. It also shows breadth, such as a song featuring Nas. Jonathan Davis’s emotional singing shines. A record on which, while firmly keeping experimental elements, its focus is firmly placed on the band’s bodily, powerful groove. It strongly binds fierce tension and a sure catharsis. An engaging record of Korn that united early aggression and mature ability — a record where the band’s return to origins shines.
