Skycrest is a fulfilling work on which Iron Savior sounds, with even higher intensity, the cosmic, grand world it has long kept and clear, forward-moving powerful power metal. Piet Sielck’s powerful singing and guitar, thick choruses and tight rhythm powerfully pull the listener straight from the opening title track. A record showing that, even as veterans, its creative drive and sure playing have not dimmed in the least. From the development from the opener “The Guardian” to the title track “Skycrest” and the aggression of “Hellbreaker” to the powerful “Our Time Has Come,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “There Can Be Only One” and “Souleater” convey the work’s fullness. Not only fast songs, but mid-tempo songs that strongly foreground melody are truly effective, and the whole album has a moderate, rich rise and fall.
