『Straight Out of Hell』は、HELLOWEENが速いリズム、明るく鋭いギター、伸びやかなコーラスを通して、パワー・メタルの爽快感を正面から鳴らした作品だ。前作『7 Sinners』の攻撃性に、より豊かなメロディとバラエティを加え、バランスの取れた一枚に仕上がっている。スピード曲だけでなく、ミドルテンポやメロディ重視の場面を巧みに配置することで、アルバムには豊かな起伏が生まれている。 冒頭の大作“Nabataea”の壮大さ、“World of War”の疾走、“Live Now!”のポジティヴな高揚、そして表題曲“Straight Out of Hell”の勢いまで、収録曲は多彩な表情を見せる。“Burning Sun”のような曲も、アルバムに彩りを添えている。ユーモア、ドラマ性、そして拳を上げたくなるフックが同居している。 長年のキャリアを重ねたバンドらしい、円熟した余裕と軽やかさも、全く失われていない。攻撃性と、王道のメロディック・メタルの魅力を、高い次元で両立させている。“Waiting for the Thunder”“Church Breaks Down”のような曲でも、鋭いギターと伸びやかなコーラスが結び付いている。HELLOWEENが得意とするパワー・メタルの楽しさを、改めて存分に再確認できる充実作と言える。

Straight Out of Hell is a record on which Helloween sounds the briskness of power metal head-on through fast rhythm, bright sharp guitar and soaring choruses. Adding richer melody and variety to the aggression of the previous 7 Sinners, it turns out a balanced record. By deftly placing not only speed songs but mid-tempos and melody-focused passages, rich dynamics arise. From the grandeur of the opening epic “Nabataea” and the speed of “World of War” to the positive lift of “Live Now!” and the momentum of the title track “Straight Out of Hell,” the songs show varied faces, while a cut like “Burning Sun” adds color. Humor, drama and fist-raising hooks coexist. A mature ease and lightness natural to a band deep into a long career are not lost at all. It unites aggression and the appeal of straight-ahead melodic metal at a high level. It is a fulfilling record that lets you fully reaffirm the fun of the power metal Helloween does best.
