『7 Sinners』は、HELLOWEENが高速のリフ、荒々しいリズム、そして大きなコーラスを前面に押し出し、攻撃性を大きく高めたパワー・メタル作品だ。持ち前のメロディの明るさを残しつつも、曲はより硬く、より速く、そして切迫した手触りを持っている。バンドの中でも、屈指のヘヴィでアグレッシヴな一枚である。 冒頭“Where the Sinners Go”の疾走、“Are You Metal?”の拳を上げたくなる高揚感、“World of Fantasy”のドラマ性、そして“Long Live the King”の壮大さまで、収録曲はスピードとフックを高い次元で両立させている。“Who Is Mr. Madman?”のような曲も、アルバムに起伏を与えている。スピード・メタルの純粋な勢いが、全編を貫いている。 疾走するスピード・メタルの勢いと、HELLOWEEN固有の歌えるフックとが激しくぶつかり合う瞬間が、実に痛快だ。攻撃性を高めながらも、メロディの魅力を決して手放していない点が、本作の大きな強みである。“The Smile of the Sun”“Faster We Fall”のような曲でも、高速のリフと大きなコーラスが結び付き、作品に一貫した攻撃性を与えている。パワー・メタルの爽快感と力強さを、存分に堪能できる、充実した一枚と言える。

7 Sinners is a power-metal record on which Helloween pushes high-speed riffs, rough rhythm and big choruses to the front, greatly raising its aggression. While keeping its native melodic brightness, the songs are harder, faster and carry an urgent feel. Even in the band’s catalogue, it is one of the heaviest, most aggressive records. From the speed of the opener “Where the Sinners Go” and the fist-raising lift of “Are You Metal?” to the drama of “World of Fantasy” and the grandeur of “Long Live the King,” the songs unite speed and hooks at a high level, while a cut like “Who Is Mr. Madman?” gives dynamics. The pure momentum of speed metal runs throughout. The moments when the drive of dashing speed metal and Helloween’s own singable hooks collide fiercely are truly exhilarating. Its great strength is that, while raising aggression, it never lets go of melodic appeal. It is a fulfilling record that lets you fully savor the briskness and strength of power metal.
