This self-titled Helloween is a historic record made under the “Pumpkins United” lineup, welcoming Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske. The vocals of three singers, including Andi Deris, create a different face in each song, and the band’s multiple eras bind into one not as mere nostalgia but as powerful present-day playing. While holding high-speed power metal, lyrical melody and long, grand development in one record, at its core are generous, strongly lifting choruses. From the dramatic development of the grand “Skyfall” and the brightness of “Best Time” to the speed of “Fear of the Fallen,” the drive of “Out for the Glory” and the lyricism of “Angels,” the songs concentrate the appeal of each era.
