Bang!

『Bang!』は、GOTTHARDが、太いギター・リフ、伸びやかで力強い歌、そしてブルースの温度を持つ、王道のハード・ロックを、力強くまとめ上げた作品だ。新ヴォーカリスト、ニック・メーダーを迎えての、2作目にあたり、その新体制が、完全に軌道に乗ったことを、はっきりと示している。楽曲は、親しみやすいメロディを備えながらも、その演奏には、確かな重みと、粘りがあり、決して、軽快なだけでは終わらない。 冒頭“Let Me In Katie”の力強い推進力、キャッチーな表題曲“Bang!”、そして“Feel What I Feel”のドラマ性まで、収録曲はいずれも聴き応えがある。“Spread Your Wings”“Jump the Gun”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。ストレートで力強いロック・ナンバーと、感情を、じっくりと描く叙情的な楽曲との、その対比が、アルバムに、豊かで多彩な表情を与えている。 メロディックでありながらも、あくまで骨太で力強い、GOTTHARDならではの、確かな魅力が、全編にわたって、はっきりと伝わってくる一枚だ。ニック・メーダーの歌声も、この時期、さらにバンドに馴染み、確かな安定感を見せている。スイス産ハード・ロックの、その高い完成度を、改めて力強く示した、聴き応えのある充実作と言える。バンドの円熟を感じさせる。

Bang! is a work on which Gotthard powerfully pulls together straight-path hard rock with thick guitar riffs, soaring powerful singing and a blues temperature. The second album welcoming the new vocalist Nic Maeder, it clearly shows that the new lineup was fully on track. The songs, while holding accessible melody, have a sure weight and tenacity in their playing, by no means ending as merely light. From the powerful drive of the opener “Let Me In Katie” and the catchy title track “Bang!” to the drama of “Feel What I Feel,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Spread Your Wings” and “Jump the Gun” convey the work’s fullness. The contrast of straight, powerful rock numbers and lyrical songs that carefully draw emotion gives the album rich, varied expression. A record on which Gotthard’s sure appeal — melodic yet sturdy and powerful — clearly comes through throughout. Nic Maeder’s voice, in this period, fits the band further, showing sure steadiness. Again powerfully showing the high polish of Swiss hard rock, it is an engaging, fulfilling work — evoking the band’s maturity.
