Empire of the Undead is the eleventh album on which GAMMA RAY grandly sounded power metal furnished with high-speed riffs, clear melody and cosmic breadth. The songs, while having a sense of speed, open wide in the choruses, creating an elation that lifts the listener. Even after a long career, the band’s musical fullness has not dimmed in the least. On “Avalon,” “Hellbent,” “Pale Rider” and “Empire of the Undead,” while having several developments, at the core are memorable melody and high-energy playing. Songs like “Born to Fly,” “Master of Confusion” and “I Will Return” breathe the band’s firm melodic sense too. In particular, the epic “Avalon” could be called a song in which GAMMA RAY’s stylistic beauty crystallizes. Giving firm satisfaction to listeners seeking the appeal of traditional power metal, it is a full record.
