本作『The Stars Will Light the Way』は、GALNERYUSが、長年積み上げてきた、あの卓越した技巧性と、深い歌心とを、さらに密度高く結び付けた、2024年の作品だ。速弾きや、変拍子といった、演奏面での見せ場は、実に多いが、それらは、決して、楽曲を難しく見せるためではなく、あくまで、そのメロディを、より遠くまで、力強く運ぶために、巧みに使われている。ベテランとなってなお、その創作意欲と、演奏力は、少しも衰えていない一枚である。 冒頭を飾る、疾走する“Go Towards the Utopia”の力強さ、そして“The Reason We Fight”のドラマ性、さらに“Lost in the Darkness”のような曲まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“Heartless”、そして“Finally, It Comes!”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。小野正利(Masatoshi Ono)の、圧巻のハイトーンと、Syuのネオクラシカルなギターとが、全編で力強く冴え渡っている。 高音域を、力強く駆けるヴォーカル、流麗なギターと鍵盤の、華やかな掛け合い、そして強靭なリズム隊とが、楽曲ごとに、大きな起伏を、鮮やかに描き出していく一枚だ。長いキャリアの、その節目の時期にあっても、過去の様式を、ただ再演するのではなく、希望や、力強い前進を感じさせる、新しい光を鳴らしている。ベテランGALNERYUSの、その円熟を示す、力強く聴き応えのある一枚と言える。バンドの健在ぶりを示す一枚だ。

The Stars Will Light the Way is a 2024 work on which Galneryus binds the outstanding technique and deep songcraft it has built over long years even more densely. Showcases on the playing side, such as fast picking and odd meters, are truly many, yet they are deftly used by no means to make the songs seem difficult but purely to carry the melody further, powerfully. A record on which, even as veterans, its creative drive and playing have not dimmed in the least. From the power of the speeding opener “Go Towards the Utopia” and the drama of “The Reason We Fight” to a cut like “Lost in the Darkness,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Heartless” and “Finally, It Comes!” convey the work’s fullness. Masatoshi Ono’s overwhelming high range and Syu’s neoclassical guitar are powerfully in sharp form throughout. A record on which vocals running powerfully across the high range, the gorgeous interplay of fluid guitar and keyboards and a strong rhythm section vividly draw big ups and downs in each song. Even in a milestone period of a long career, rather than merely re-performing past styles, it sounds a new light evoking hope and powerful advance. A powerful, engaging record showing the maturity of the veteran Galneryus — a record showing the band’s vigor.
