『Beyond the End of Despair...』は、GALNERYUSが、疾走する力強いリズム、Syuの流麗で美しいギター、そして、YAMA-B(山田雅樹)の伸びやかなハイトーン・ヴォーカルを組み合わせた、充実の第3作だ。前2作で培った、あのネオクラシカルな様式を、さらに深化させている。クラシカルで美しいフレーズと、パワー・メタルの、あの確かな勢いとが、鮮やかに交差し、楽曲は、大きく覚えやすいメロディを保ちながらも、実に複雑に、そして劇的に展開していく。バンドの、円熟しつつある実力が光る一枚である。 冒頭のインストゥルメンタルから、疾走する“Shriek of the Vengeance”へと至る展開、そして“Raid Again”のドラマ性、さらに“Shiver”のような曲まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“Point of No Return”、そして“Arise”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。Syuの、ネオクラシカルで超絶的なギターが、全編で力強く冴え渡っている。 その卓越した技巧の多さにもかかわらず、演奏は、常に、楽曲のドラマを、より高める方向へと、力強く働いている一枚だ。速さと叙情性とを、極めて高い次元で両立させている。日本発のメロディック・メタルの、その卓越した演奏力と、確かな作曲力とを、堂々たるスケールで示した、力強く聴き応えのある一枚と言える。バンドの安定した実力が光る一枚だ。

Beyond the End of Despair... is a fulfilling third album on which Galneryus combines speeding powerful rhythm, Syu’s fluid, beautiful guitar and Yama-B (Masaki Yamada)’s soaring high-range vocals. It further deepens the neoclassical style cultivated on the previous two works. Classical, beautiful phrases and power metal’s sure momentum intersect vividly, and the songs, while keeping big, memorable melody, develop truly complexly and dramatically. A record where the band’s maturing ability shines. From the development from the opening instrumental to the speeding “Shriek of the Vengeance” and the drama of “Raid Again” to a cut like “Shiver,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Point of No Return” and “Arise” convey the work’s fullness. Syu’s neoclassical, virtuosic guitar is powerfully in sharp form throughout. A record on which, despite the great amount of outstanding technique, the playing always works powerfully toward heightening the songs’ drama. It unites speed and lyricism at an extremely high level.
