The Premonition

『The Premonition』は、ガス・Gの流麗なギターとアポロ・パパサナシオの力強い歌を軸に、FIREWINDがメロディック・パワー・メタルを引き締めた作品だ。速い曲でも主旋律が明快で、リフとコーラスが互いに勢いを与えている。バンドの代表的な美点を、高い完成度で示した一枚である。 “Into the Fire”“Mercenary Man”“The Silent Code”といった楽曲では、ドラマティックな曲展開の中に、ハード・ロック的なシンプルさもあり、聴きやすさと技巧が釣り合っている。“Head Up High”“Circle of Life”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作は全英チャートにも登場するなどバンドの人気を一段と高めており、マイケル・センベロの“Maniac”のカヴァーも収録されている。“Angels Forgive Me”“Life Foreclosed”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいており、ガス・Gのギターとアポロの歌が最高の相性を見せた充実作だ。ちょうどこの時期、ガス・Gはオジー・オズボーンのバンドへの加入も果たしている。バンドの充実ぶりを示す、完成度の高い一枚だ。

The Premonition is a work on which, centered on Gus G.’s flowing guitar and Apollo Papathanasio’s powerful singing, FIREWIND tightened melodic power metal. Even in fast songs the main melody is clear, and the riffs and choruses give each other momentum. It is a record that showed the band’s representative virtues at high completion. On “Into the Fire,” “Mercenary Man” and “The Silent Code,” within dramatic song developments there is also a hard-rock simplicity, so accessibility and technique are balanced. Songs like “Head Up High” and “Circle of Life” breathe the band’s full playing too. Around this period, Gus G. also achieved joining Ozzy Osbourne’s band. It is a highly complete record that shows the band’s fullness.
