Allegiance

『Allegiance』は、FIREWINDがガス・Gの切れ味あるギター、前へ進むリズム、アポロ・パパサナシオの力強い歌をまとめた作品だ。速い曲ではリフの躍動を、ミドルテンポでは大きなコーラスの広がりを生かし、どの曲にも明確な焦点がある。新ヴォーカリストのアポロを迎え、バンドが新たな充実期に入った一枚である。 “Allegiance”“Falling to Pieces”“Ready to Strike”といった楽曲では、技巧的なソロも曲の勢いを止めず、メロディへの奉仕として機能している。“Insanity”“Till the End of Time”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作で加入したアポロ・パパサナシオの力強く表現力豊かな歌声はバンドのサウンドをより重厚なものへと押し上げており、“Breaking the Silence”“Dreamchaser”“Before the Storm”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ギターとヴォーカルが理想的なバランスで融合した、バンドの代表作の一つである。ギター・ヒーロー的な華やかさと、バンドの一体感を両立させている。充実したパワー・メタルの魅力を、存分に味わえる一枚である。

Allegiance is a work on which FIREWIND brought together Gus G.’s incisive guitar, forward-moving rhythm and Apollo Papathanasio’s powerful singing. In fast songs they make use of the dynamism of the riffs, and in mid-tempo the breadth of big choruses, so every song has a clear focus. Welcoming new vocalist Apollo, it is a record on which the band entered a new period of fullness. On “Allegiance,” “Falling to Pieces” and “Ready to Strike,” technical solos also do not stop the songs’ momentum, functioning as service to the melody. Songs like “Insanity” and “Till the End of Time” breathe the band’s full playing too. They balance guitar-hero flamboyance and the band’s unity. It is a record on which the appeal of full power metal can be fully savored.
