Days of Defiance

『Days of Defiance』は、FIREWINDが疾走するパワー・メタル、印象的なリード・ギター、強いサビを一体化させた作品だ。技巧的なプレイは多いが、曲の勢いとメロディを押し上げる役割に徹しており、聴感は非常にストレートである。アポロ・パパサナシオが在籍した時期の、勢いある一枚である。 “The Ark of Lies”“World On Fire”“Chariot”といった楽曲では、速さとフックの両方が高い次元で両立している。“Embrace the Sun”“When All Is Said and Done”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作でもガス・Gの華麗なギター・ワークが全編で炸裂しており、“Heading for the Dawn”“Losing Faith”“The Yearning”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。オジー・オズボーンのバンドで多忙を極める中で制作された本作は、ガス・Gの尽きることのない創作意欲の証だ。ガス・Gがオジー・オズボーンのバンドと並行して制作した本作は、彼の旺盛な創作意欲を示している。速さとフックの両方を求める人に向く、引き締まったメロディック・メタル作だ。

Days of Defiance is a work on which FIREWIND unified racing power metal, impressive lead guitar and strong choruses. There is much technical play, but it is devoted to the role of pushing up the songs’ momentum and melody, so the listening feel is very straight. It is an energetic record from the period on which Apollo Papathanasio was a member. On “The Ark of Lies,” “World On Fire” and “Chariot,” both speed and hooks are balanced at a high level. Songs like “Embrace the Sun” and “When All Is Said and Done” breathe the band’s full playing too. Made by Gus G. in parallel with Ozzy Osbourne’s band, this work shows his vigorous creative drive. It is a tight melodic-metal work for those who seek both speed and hooks.
