Few Against Many

『Few Against Many』は、FIREWINDがシャープなギター・リフ、流麗なソロ、強いヴォーカルを軸に、引き締まったパワー・メタルを提示した作品だ。高速の曲でもアンサンブルは整理され、リフと歌メロの輪郭がくっきりと残る。アポロ・パパサナシオが在籍した最後の作品となった一枚である。 “Wall of Sound”“Few Against Many”“Glorious”といった楽曲では、ギター主導の華やかさと、バンド全体で押し出す重さが均衡している。チェロ・メタルのアポカリプティカが参加した“Edge Of A Dream”も収録されている。“Losing My Mind”“Destiny”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作はこれまで以上にヘヴィでダークな方向性も感じさせる作品となっており、“The Undying Fire”“Another Dimension”“Long Gone Tomorrow”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ガス・Gのギターは相変わらず切れ味鋭く、アポロ期を締めくくるにふさわしい完成度の高い一枚である。技巧と曲の推進力を、同時に楽しめる。FIREWINDらしい魅力が詰まった、充実の一枚だ。

Few Against Many is a work on which FIREWIND, centered on sharp guitar riffs, flowing solos and strong vocals, presented tight power metal. Even in fast songs the ensemble is organized, and the outlines of the riffs and vocal melody clearly remain. It is a record that became the last work on which Apollo Papathanasio was a member. On “Wall of Sound,” “Few Against Many” and “Glorious,” guitar-led flamboyance and the weight pushed out by the whole band are balanced. “Edge Of A Dream,” featuring the cello-metal band Apocalyptica, is also included. Songs like “Losing My Mind” and “Destiny” breathe the band’s full playing too. One can enjoy technique and the songs’ drive at once. It is a full record packed with characteristically FIREWIND appeal.
