『Forged by Fire』は、ガス・Gの切れ味あるギターを中心に、速いリフと伸びやかな歌メロを結び付けたパワー・メタル作品だ。リズム隊とキーボードは勢いを保ちながら、曲の輪郭を鮮明に支えている。初期FIREWINDの野心とメロディへのこだわりが、最もまっすぐ伝わる第3作である。 “Kill to Live”“Tyranny”“Land of Eternity”といった楽曲では、疾走感のある曲でもコーラスの明快さが失われず、技巧がそのまま高揚感へと変わる。“Beware the Beast”“Hate World Hero”“Burn In Hell”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作はネオクラシカルなフレーズとモダンなヘヴィネスを巧みに融合させており、“The Forgotten Memory”“Escape From Tomorrow”“Feast of the Savages”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ガス・Gのギターは、テクニックをひけらかすのではなく常に楽曲を輝かせるために鳴っている。ガス・Gのギター・ワークは、この時点で早くも高い完成度に達している。初期の集大成にして、バンドの方向性を確立した一枚である。

Forged by Fire is a power-metal work on which, centered on Gus G.’s incisive guitar, fast riffs and soaring vocal melody are bound. The rhythm section and keyboards keep momentum while clearly supporting the songs’ outline. It is the third album on which early FIREWIND’s ambition and commitment to melody come across most directly. On “Kill to Live,” “Tyranny” and “Land of Eternity,” even in songs with drive, the clarity of the choruses is not lost, and technique turns directly into elation. Songs like “Beware the Beast,” “Hate World Hero” and “Burn In Hell” breathe the band’s full playing too. Gus G.’s guitar work already reached a high completion at this point. As a culmination of the early period, it is a record that established the band’s direction.
