Pimp Your Past

『Pimp Your Past』は、FAIR WARNINGが初期3作品の重要曲を2016年の演奏と音で再構成した作品だ。日本のレコード会社からの要望が出発点で、バンドは当初懐疑的だったが、単なる録り直しではなくアレンジを新たにすると決めたことで意欲が湧いたという。日本ではキング・レコードから、欧州ではシュタインハンマー/SPVから発表された。「良い曲はいつまでも良い曲であり続ける」という彼ら自身の言葉が全編を貫く。猿を配した洒落たジャケットも、進化の初期段階を踏まえた洒落である。 単なるベスト盤ではなく、メロディ、コーラス、ギターの質感を現在のバンドとして見直すことで、曲そのものの強さを浮かび上がらせている。デビュー作から“Longing for Love”など5曲、『Rainmaker』から“Burning Heart”など4曲、『Go!』から“Angels of Heaven”“Save Me”の2曲を選び、“Rain Song”はキーボードを一切使わず録り直された。原曲を知る人には新しい表情が、初めて触れる人にはバンドの基礎が伝わる内容。過去を飾り直すのではなく、良い曲が時代を越えることを示す一枚だ。

Pimp Your Past is the record on which Fair Warning reconstructed key songs from their first three albums with 2016 playing and sound. The starting point was a request from their Japanese record company; the band was skeptical at first, but say the drive came once they decided not simply to re-record but to give the material fresh arrangements. Released on King Records in Japan and Steamhammer/SPV in Europe. Their own line — a good song will always remain a good song — runs through the whole thing. The witty monkey artwork is a joke on an early stage of evolution. Rather than a mere best-of, re-examining the texture of melody, choruses and guitar as the band they are now brings out the strength of the songs themselves. Five come from the debut, including “Longing for Love,” four from Rainmaker including “Burning Heart,” and “Angels of Heaven” and “Save Me” from Go!; “Rain Song” was re-recorded with no keyboards at all. For those who know the originals, new expressions; for newcomers, the band's foundations. Not dressing up the past, but showing that good songs cross eras.
