『Tinnitus Sanctus』は、EDGUYがトビアス・サメットの強い歌を軸に、太いリフとアリーナ級のフックを並べた作品だ。パワー・メタルのスピード感を残しつつ、曲はより重量感とハード・ロック的な押し出しを増している。前作で強めたロック色を、さらに洗練させた一枚である。 “Ministry Of Saints”“Sex Fire Religion”“Nine Lives”といった楽曲では、キャッチーなコーラスと細かなギター・ワークが自然に結び付き、各曲に勢いと表情を与えている。“Dragonfly”“Thorn Without A Rose”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した表現力が息づいている。“Wake Up Dreaming Black”“9-2-9”“Dead Or Rock”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。アルバム・タイトルは「聖なる耳鳴り」とでも訳すべきバンドらしいユーモアを込めた造語であり、ハード・ロック寄りのアプローチをさらに推し進めながらもパワー・メタルらしい疾走感やドラマ性も健在で、トビアス・サメットの表現力ある歌声が全編で存分に発揮されている。バンドの華やかさを保ちながら、音の厚みを一段深めた本作は、円熟期に向かうEDGUYの充実を示す一枚である。

Tinnitus Sanctus is a work on which EDGUY, centered on Tobias Sammet’s strong singing, lined up thick riffs and arena-scale hooks. While keeping power metal’s speed, the songs increase in weight and hard-rock push. It is a record that further refined the rock color strengthened on the previous album. On “Ministry Of Saints,” “Sex Fire Religion” and “Nine Lives,” catchy choruses and fine guitar work join naturally, giving each song momentum and expression. Songs like “Dragonfly” and “Thorn Without A Rose” breathe the band’s full expressiveness too. Keeping the band’s flair while deepening the thickness of the sound a notch, it is a record showing EDGUY’s fullness heading toward their mature period.
