『Are You Ready to Rock』は、数年の充電期間を経て、ECLIPSEがギターの音圧を一気に引き上げて臨んだ第3作だ。前2作で培ったメロディック・ハードの基盤の上に、より高いエネルギーと大合唱を誘うコーラスを磨き上げ、WHITESNAKEやDOKKEN、SCORPIONSを思わせるアリーナ級の躍動感を全面に押し出している。ドラムにロバン・バック、鍵盤にヨハン・ベルリンを迎えた布陣で、バラードを排し、疾走感あふれるロック・ナンバーを一気呵成に並べている。この時期エリック・マーテンソンは、ブレイズン・アボットのアルバムでもリード・ヴォーカルを務めるなど、活動の幅を広げていた。 冒頭の“Breaking My Heart Again”のドッケン譲りの鋭いリフから、“Under the Gun”“Hard Time Loving You”の高いテンション、“Million Miles Away”の抜群のコーラスまで、隙のない楽曲が続く。エリック・マーテンソンの伸びやかな歌唱と、マグヌス・ヘンリクソンのシュレッド・ギターが一体となり、80年代メロディック・メタルの精髄を現代に甦らせている。初期の代表作としてファンに長く愛される、充実の快作だ。

Are You Ready to Rock is Eclipse's third album, made after a few years' recharge with the guitars' sonic weight cranked up all at once. On the melodic-hard foundation built over the previous two albums, it polishes higher energy and singalong choruses, pushing arena-scale drive recalling Whitesnake, Dokken and Scorpions to the front. With drummer Robban Bäck and keyboardist Johan Berlin in the lineup, it forgoes ballads and lines up racing rock numbers in one breath. Around this time Erik Mårtensson also sang lead on an album by Brazen Abbot, widening his activities. From the Dokken-esque sharp riff of the opener "Breaking My Heart Again" to the high tension of "Under the Gun" and "Hard Time Loving You" and the outstanding chorus of "Million Miles Away," airtight songs continue. Erik Mårtensson's soaring singing and Magnus Henriksson's shredding guitar act as one, reviving the essence of 1980s melodic metal for the present day. An accomplished gem long loved by fans as an early classic.
