Firesign

DYNAZTYの『Firesign』は、AFM Recordsへ移籍して発表された第6作で、ネオクラシカルなギター・ワーク、スピード感、そして極端にキャッチーなメロディを、現代的なプロダクションでまとめ上げた作品だ。前作『Titanic Mass』よりもさらに速く躍動的な方向へ進み、パワー・メタルの推進力とメロディック・ロックの即効性をより明快に結び付けている。ニルス・モーリンの高く力強い歌は、複雑に絡み合うリフの上でもサビを鮮明に浮かび上がらせ、楽曲の輪郭を際立たせる。なお、この前年にモーリンはAMARANTHEの正式ヴォーカリストにも就任しており、シーンでの存在感をさらに高めていた。 先行シングル“Breathe with Me”、続く“The Grey”、そして表題曲“Firesign”は、いずれも強靭なフックを備えた代表曲だ。“In the Arms of a Devil”“Let Me Dream Forever”では、疾走と叙情が滑らかに交差する。演奏は技巧的だが、聴き手の耳に最初に残るのは常に曲のフックであり、速さと親しみやすさの均衡が見事に取られている。移籍第1作にしてバンドの現代的な魅力を凝縮した、洗練と勢いを兼ね備えた一枚である。

Firesign is Dynazty's sixth album, released after moving to AFM Records, bringing neoclassical guitar work, speed and extremely catchy melody into a modern production. It moves in an even faster, more dynamic direction than its predecessor Titanic Mass, joining power-metal momentum with melodic-rock immediacy more clearly than before. Nils Molin's high, powerful voice keeps each chorus vivid even over intricately interlocking riffs, sharpening the outline of the songs. The lead single “Breathe with Me,” the following “The Grey” and the title track “Firesign” are all signature songs with robust hooks. On “In the Arms of a Devil” and “Let Me Dream Forever,” drive and lyricism cross smoothly. The playing is skilled, but what stays with the listener first is always the hook, and the balance of velocity and accessibility is superbly struck. A first album for the new label that concentrates the band's modern appeal, it combines polish with momentum.
