The Dark Delight

『The Dark Delight』は、AFM Recordsからの第2作にして、バンド自身が「これまでで最も大きく、最も引き込まれる一枚」と語る第7作だ。バンド自らのプロデュースにヤコブ・ハンセンのミックスが加わり、機関銃のような高速リフ、オーケストラ的なアレンジ、巨大なバック・コーラスが高密度で結び付いた。バンド初のゲスト参加として、ニルス・モーリンのAMARANTHEでの盟友ヘンリク“Gg6”エングルンドが“From Sound to Silence”と“Apex”で強烈なグロウルを添えている。 先行シングル“Presence of Mind”がアルバムの幕を鋭く開け、“Heartless Madness”“Waterfall”はキャッチーさと攻撃性を両立させる。“Paradise of the Architect”“The Man and the Elements”では、劇的なメロディと構築の妙が高い次元で噛み合う。速さと重さに寄りかからず、フックの強さとアレンジの緻密さで最後まで緊張感を保つ構成は、モダン・メロディック・メタルの一つの到達点だ。ニルス・モーリンの伸びやかな歌唱が全体を貫き、バンドの充実を鮮やかに示している。

The Dark Delight is the second album for AFM Records, a seventh record the band itself calls its “biggest and most engrossing” yet. Self-produced with a mix by Jacob Hansen, it binds machine-gun riffs, orchestral arrangement and huge backing choruses at high density. As the band's first guest appearance, Nils Molin's Amaranthe bandmate Henrik “Gg6” Englund adds a fierce growl on “From Sound to Silence” and “Apex.” The lead single “Presence of Mind” opens the album sharply, while “Heartless Madness” and “Waterfall” combine catchiness with aggression. On “Paradise of the Architect” and “The Man and the Elements,” dramatic melody and clever construction mesh at a high level. A structure that keeps tension to the end through strong hooks and detailed arrangement, rather than leaning on speed and weight, marks a peak of modern melodic metal. Nils Molin's soaring singing runs through the whole, vividly showing the band's strength.
