Atoma

『Atoma』は、DARK TRANQUILLITYがメロディック・デスの鋭いギター・ハーモニーと、冷たく美しい鍵盤の空気を高い完成度で結び付けた第11作だ。ミカエル・スタンネのヴォーカル、ニクラス・スンディンのギター、マルティン・ブレンドストロームのキーボード、アンダース・イヴァルプのドラムという編成に加え、アンダース・イヴェルスがベースとして初参加した。疾走する場面ではリフが緊張を作り、ミドル・テンポでは旋律の哀感が深く残る。 タイトル曲“Atoma”“Forward Momentum”では、鋭いリフと叙情的な旋律が交錯する。激しさと叙情性の境目を丁寧に行き来するため、アルバム全体には統一された夜のようなムードがある。曲は複雑でも感情の線が見えやすく、繰り返すほど細部のアレンジが開いていく。アルバム・タイトルは、万物を構成する最小単位である「原子」に由来し、存在の根源をめぐる思索を反映している。“Forward Momentum”“The Pitiless”のような楽曲では、疾走と叙情が緊密に結び付いている。安定した編成による演奏は、緻密で力強い。本作はメタル・ストームでも高く評価され、北欧メロディック・デスの成熟を感じさせる一枚となっている。

Atoma is the eleventh album, on which Dark Tranquillity bound the sharp guitar harmonies of melodic death with the air of cold, beautiful keys at a high level. Alongside Mikael Stanne on vocals, Niklas Sundin on guitar, Martin Brändström on keyboards and Anders Jivarp on drums, Anders Iwers took part for the first time on bass. In racing passages riffs create tension, and in mid-tempo the melancholy of the melody remains deep. On the title track "Atoma" and "Forward Momentum," sharp riffs and lyrical melody intersect. Carefully moving back and forth across the boundary of intensity and lyricism, the whole album has a unified, night-like mood. The songs are complex yet the emotional line is easy to see, and the more one repeats them, the more the details of the arrangement open up. The album was highly regarded on Metal Storm as well — a record that conveys the maturity of Nordic melodic death.
