『Construct』は、DARK TRANQUILLITYが冷ややかなキーボードの質感、緻密なリフ、抑えたメロディを通して、内面へと沈み込むようなメロディック・デス・メタルを描いた作品だ。攻撃性は保たれているが、ここでは余白と陰影が大きな役割を果たし、クリーン・ヴォーカルを交えた静かな場面も印象的に配置されている。クリーン・ヴォーカルとグロウルの対比がこれまで以上に効果的に用いられ、作品全体に沈鬱で瞑想的な雰囲気を与えている。急激な爆発よりも、少しずつ不穏さを積み重ねていく構成が全体を貫いている。 “For Broken Words”“The Science of Noise”“Uniformity”“Endtime Hearts”といった楽曲では、寒色の美しさと重い感情の流れがじっくりと立ち上がり、“The Silence in Between”“Photon Dreams”では抑制された叙情が深い余韻を残す。“Apathetic”“What Only You Know”“State of Trust”“Immemorial”といった楽曲でも、静かな緊張と旋律の陰影が丁寧に積み重ねられていく。速さや激しさを競うのではなく、北欧的な静けさと沈鬱な旋律美を前面に据えた本作は、バンドの内省的な側面を最も色濃く映し出した一枚として、長いキャリアの中でも独自の位置を占めている。

Construct is an album on which DARK TRANQUILLITY, through cold keyboard texture, dense riffs and restrained melody, painted a melodic death metal that sinks inward. Aggression is retained, but here space and shadow play a large role, and quiet passages with clean vocals are placed memorably. The contrast of clean vocals and growls is used more effectively than ever, lending the whole album a gloomy, meditative atmosphere. A structure that builds unease little by little rather than through sudden explosions runs throughout. On “For Broken Words,” “The Science of Noise,” “Uniformity” and “Endtime Hearts,” cool-toned beauty and a heavy flow of emotion rise slowly, while “The Silence in Between” and “Photon Dreams” leave a deep afterglow of restrained lyricism. On “Apathetic,” “What Only You Know,” “State of Trust” and “Immemorial” too, quiet tension and the shadow of melody are carefully stacked. Rather than competing on speed or ferocity, the record foregrounds a Nordic quiet and gloomy melodic beauty, and it holds a singular place across a long career as the album that most vividly reflects the band’s introspective side.
