『Grand Design』は、前作からわずか一年後の2000年5月16日に出た。レーベルはZレコーズ。トーマス・トルセーンの歌はそのままで、音はより直進的になっている。細かな装飾を削り、バンドが実際に鳴らしている勢いを前に出す作りだ。
この盤の位置づけは、後から見ると分かりやすい。DAMNED NATIONにとって、これが従来の路線で作った最後のアルバムになった。翌2001年の秋、トルセーンが去る。父親になったばかりで、バンドに割く時間と覚悟が持てないというのが理由だった。次作の録音は後任探しのために凍結され、バンドはそこから別の道へ入っていく。

Grand Design followed just a year later, on 16 May 2000, on Z Records. Thomas Thorsén still sings, and the sound is more direct — the ornament stripped back so that what the band actually plays comes forward.
Where this record sits is clearer in hindsight. It was the last album Damned Nation made along their existing line. In the autumn of 2001 Thorsén left: he had just become a father and felt he could not find the time or the commitment the band needed. Recording of the next album was put on ice while they looked for a successor, and from there the band went somewhere else.
