『Road of Desire』は、1999年5月19日に出た作品である。ここで注意がいる。これはデビュー作ではない。DAMNED NATIONは1993年にスウェーデンで結成され、1995年には『Just What the Doctor Ordered』を出している。つまり本作は4年の間を置いた二枚目にあたる。
歌はトーマス・トルセーン。太いギター・リフと押し出しの強いリズムを土台に、哀感を帯びた歌メロと鍵盤の彩りを重ねる作りで、この時期の北欧メロディック・ハード・ロックの標準的な文法の中にいる。彼らがその外へ踏み出すのは、まだ4年先のことになる。

Road of Desire came out on 19 May 1999. A caution first: this is not the debut. Damned Nation formed in Sweden in 1993 and released Just What the Doctor Ordered in 1995, which makes this their second album, four years on.
Thomas Thorsén sings. It is built on thick guitar riffs and a forward rhythm section, with melancholic vocal melodies and keyboard colour laid over the top — squarely inside the standard grammar of Nordic melodic hard rock at that moment. Stepping outside it was still four years away.
