『Backyard Babies』は、BACKYARD BABIESがパンクの切迫感とグラム由来の派手さを、短く荒々しいロック曲へまとめたセルフタイトルの第6作だ。2008年8月に発表され、本国アルバム・チャートで首位、英国ロック・チャートで29位に初登場した。同年初頭の90日間で一気に録音され、ラムシュタインやアポカリプティカを手がけたヤコブ・ヘルナーがプロデュースしている。ざらついたギターと挑発的な歌が、曲に都会的で危険な雰囲気を与えている。バンドにとって初の本国首位という節目の作品となった。 フックは明快でも音は過度に磨かれず、バンドのライヴ感が強く残る。“Fuck Off and Die”“Degenerated”“Nomadic”の3曲がシングルとなり、なかでも“Nomadic”は今なお最大のヒット曲の一つだ。“Degenerated”は『ギターヒーロー ワールドツアー』の配信曲にもなった。“Abandon”や“Zoe Is a Weirdo”も人気が高い。翌年には20周年記念盤を出し、その後バンドは長い休止へ入る。スウェーデンのロックンロール・バンドとしての荒い魅力を、正面から示した一枚である。

Backyard Babies is the self-titled sixth album, gathering punk urgency and glam-derived flash into short, rough rock songs. Released in August 2008, it took No. 1 on the home album chart and entered the UK rock chart at No. 29. It was cut in one go over 90 days early that year, produced by Jacob Hellner, known for Rammstein and Apocalyptica. Gritty guitar and provocative singing give the songs an urban, dangerous air. It became a milestone — the band's first No. 1 at home. The hooks are clear but the sound isn't over-polished, and the band's live feel stays strong. Three songs became singles — “Fuck Off and Die,” “Degenerated” and “Nomadic” — and “Nomadic” in particular remains one of their biggest hits to this day. “Degenerated” also became a download in Guitar Hero World Tour. “Abandon” and “Zoe Is a Weirdo” are popular too. The next year they issued a 20th-anniversary release, after which the band entered a long hiatus. A record that shows their rough appeal as a Swedish rock 'n' roll band head-on.
