『Angel of Babylon』は、多彩なゲスト・ヴォーカルとシンフォニックなアレンジを通じ、AVANTASIAのメタル・オペラ的な魅力を濃密に描く作品だ。曲ごとに歌い手の個性が変わり、物語性のある世界へ異なる角度から光を当てていく。『The Wicked Symphony』と同日に発表された、双子のような一枚である。 “Stargazers”“Angel Of Babylon”“Symphony Of Life”といった楽曲では、大編成の華やかさの中でも、メロディを核にした楽曲の作り込みがしっかり感じられる。ヨルン・ランデやミヒャエル・キスケ、ボブ・カトレイ（マグナム）ら、常連のゲストが実力を発揮する。“Your Love Is Evil”“Promised Land”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。『The Wicked Symphony』とともにAVANTASIAの三部作を締めくくる重要な作品であり、ラッセル・アレンやジョン・オリヴァ（元サヴァタージ）ら豪華なゲストが参加している。二枚のアルバムを同時に完成させるという離れ業を成し遂げながらも、そのクオリティは驚くほど高い。壮大なスケールと確かな歌心を両立させた、充実した一枚である。

Angel of Babylon is a work that, through varied guest vocals and symphonic arrangement, densely draws AVANTASIA’s metal-opera appeal. With each song the singer’s personality changes, casting light on a narrative world from different angles. Released on the same day as The Wicked Symphony, it is a twin-like record. On “Stargazers,” “Angel Of Babylon” and “Symphony Of Life,” even within large-ensemble flamboyance, the crafting of songs centered on melody is firmly felt. Regular guests such as Jørn Lande, Michael Kiske and Bob Catley (Magnum) show their ability. Songs like “Your Love Is Evil” and “Promised Land” breathe the band’s full playing too. It is a full record that balanced grand scale and firm melodic sense.
