The Mystery of Time is a rock-opera work on which AVANTASIA, using multiple vocalists, thick choruses and symphonic arrangement, draws a large story. Each time the singer changes, the song’s viewpoint changes, and the melody plays the role of leading dramatic scene changes. Introducing an orchestra on a grand scale, it is a record that further expanded that scale. On “Spectres,” “Sleepwalking” and “Invoke the Machine,” though the construction is lavish, at the center are memorable melody and hard-rock drive.
