Overcome

『Overcome』は、ALL THAT REMAINSが切迫したリフ、低く重いブレイクダウン、フィル・ラボンテのクリーン・ヴォーカルを強く結び付けた第4作だ。2008年9月に発表され、同年5月にオーディオハンマー・スタジオでジェイソン・スエコフのプロデュースにより録音された。長年組んだアダム・ドゥトキェヴィッチから離れた最初の作品でもあり、音の質感もはっきり変わっている。ドラムはジェイソン・コスタに交代した。 激しい場面と大きなコーラスの落差が、曲に即効性と感情的な起伏を与える。テクニカルなギター・ワークはリズムの圧力を高めながら、メロディを埋もれさせない。“Two Weeks”は全米メインストリーム・ロックで初のトップ10入りを果たし、アクティヴ・ロックでも5位以内に届く大ヒットとなった。先行シングル“Chiron”とともに『ロック・バンド』の配信曲にもなっている。締め近くの“Believe in Nothing”はネヴァーモアのカヴァーである。より開かれた音作りには賛否もあったが、24万枚を超える売上でバンドを一段上へ押し上げた。メタルコアの攻撃性を保ちつつ、より広い聴き手へ届くフックを備えた一枚である。

Overcome is the fourth album, binding urgent riffs, low heavy breakdowns and Phil Labonte's clean vocals tightly. Released in September 2008 and recorded that May at Audiohammer Studios under Jason Suecof's production. It's the first record away from longtime collaborator Adam Dutkiewicz, and the sonic texture changed clearly too. Jason Costa took over on drums. The gap between intense passages and big choruses gives the songs immediacy and emotional undulation. The technical guitar work raises the rhythmic pressure without burying the melody. “Two Weeks” took their first top-10 on US Mainstream Rock and became a major hit, reaching the top five on Active Rock; along with the advance single “Chiron” it also became Rock Band DLC. Near the close, “Believe in Nothing” is a Nevermore cover. The more open production drew mixed opinion, but sales past 240,000 pushed the band up a level. A record that keeps metalcore's aggression while carrying hooks that reach a wider audience.
