『Stalingrad』は、ACCEPTが鋭いギター・リフ、軍靴のように踏み込むリズム、そして堂々たるコーラスを通して、正統派メタルの重量感を徹底して鳴らした作品だ。戦争を題材にしながらも、曲を動かす核はあくまで、シンプルで強いリフと、観客と一緒に歌える大きなメロディにある。復帰作の勢いを、さらに推し進めた一枚である。 冒頭“Hung, Drawn and Quartered”の攻撃性、表題曲“Stalingrad”の重厚さ、“Hellfire”の疾走、そして“Shadow Soldiers”“Against the World”まで、収録曲はいずれも力強い。速い曲では突進力を、ミドルテンポでは重い踏み込みを際立たせることで、アルバムは終始、強い緊張感を保っている。 マーク・トーニロの加入後、バンドが完全に軌道に乗ったことを証明する、充実した内容だ。ウルフ・ホフマンのギターと、屈強なリズム隊が生み出す演奏には、一切の隙がない。“Flash to Bang Time”“The Quick and the Dead”のような曲でも、鋭いリフと堂々たるコーラスが、作品に一貫した推進力を与えている。ACCEPTの屈強な演奏力と、伝統的なヘヴィ・メタルの醍醐味を存分に味わえる、力強く安定した作品と言える。

Stalingrad is a record on which Accept thoroughly sounds the weight of traditional metal through sharp guitar riffs, a rhythm driving like marching boots and dignified choruses. Though it takes up war as a theme, the core that moves the songs remains simple, strong riffs and big melody to sing with the crowd. It is a record that pushes the comeback’s momentum further. From the aggression of the opener “Hung, Drawn and Quartered” and the weight of the title track “Stalingrad” to the speed of “Hellfire” and “Shadow Soldiers” and “Against the World,” every song is powerful. By highlighting charge in the fast songs and a heavy drive in the mid-tempos, the album keeps a strong tension throughout. It is fulfilling content proving that, after Mark Tornillo’s arrival, the band was fully on track. The playing created by Wolf Hoffmann’s guitar and the sturdy rhythm section has no gaps at all. It is a powerful, steady record that lets you fully savor Accept’s sturdy playing and the essence of traditional heavy metal.
