『Accept』は、ACCEPTが後に磨き上げる硬質なヘヴィ・メタルの原型を、粗削りな熱とともに提示したデビュー作だ。ギターは短く鋭いリフを刻み、ウド・ダークシュナイダーのざらついた個性的な声が、曲に独特の緊張を与えている。まだ様式が固まる前の、若きバンドの瑞々しいエネルギーが全編に満ちている。 冒頭“Lady Lou”の勢い、“Seawinds”の陰影、“Tired of Me”のドライブ感、そして“Helldriver”“Street Fighter”の攻撃性まで、収録曲は若いバンドの多面性を見せている。ハード・ロックからヘヴィ・メタルへと向かう過渡期らしい荒々しさと、確かなメロディ感覚が同居しているのが興味深い。 完成された様式の前段階だからこそ、演奏の生々しい手触りと、前へ進もうとする強い意志が、そのまま伝わってくる。後年のACCEPTを特徴づける、鋼のように硬いリフの萌芽が、すでにここに聞き取れる。“Sounds of War”“Free Me Now”のような曲でも、鋭いリフと荒々しい歌声が、作品に一貫した熱量を与えている。ジャーマン・ヘヴィ・メタルの礎を築くことになるバンドの、荒々しくも重要な出発点となった一枚と言える。

Accept is the debut on which Accept presents, with a rough heat, the archetype of the hard-edged heavy metal it would later polish. The guitar chops short, sharp riffs, and Udo Dirkschneider’s gritty, distinctive voice gives the songs a particular tension. The fresh energy of a young band, before its style hardened, fills the whole. From the momentum of the opener “Lady Lou” and the shading of “Seawinds” to the drive of “Tired of Me” and the aggression of “Helldriver” and “Street Fighter,” the songs show the many sides of a young band. It is intriguing how a roughness natural to the transition from hard rock toward heavy metal coexists with a sure melodic sense. Precisely because it is a stage before the completed style, the raw feel of the playing and a strong will to move forward come through directly. The bud of the steel-hard riffs that would characterize later Accept can already be heard here. It is a rough but important starting point for a band that would lay a foundation of German heavy metal.
