Guns N' Roses To Take 2027 Off From Touring And Turn To New Music, Says Slash
Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash said on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", in the episode broadcast on October 12, that once the band's November and December shows in India, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand are behind them, Guns N' Roses will basically be off in 2027. There is a lot of material to put together, he said, and he hopes that is what the next phase will be. Blabbermouth transcribed the interview and reported it on October 13; these are Slash's words on the radio, not a formal announcement from the band.
A year off the road, to pull the material together
On the show, Slash said that once this year's dates in Asia and Oceania are done, Guns N' Roses will basically be off next year. The band has a lot of material that needs putting together, he went on, and he hopes getting into that is the next phase. When host Eddie Trunk asked whether the idea was to take a break from touring and come together on the material, Slash said that was exactly it.
There is a great deal of it, he said, and it is scattered all over the place; gathering it and starting work on it takes time and focus, and that is what has been hard to find. Writing on the road comes easily to him, but Duff McKagan and Axl Rose each work in their own way, so on tour they create separately, and getting everyone together to do it while touring is next to impossible.
The reworked songs are all out; next comes an album of new ones
Since the reunion, Guns N' Roses have put out standalone songs rather than an album: "Absurd" and "Hard Skool" in 2021, "Perhaps" and "The General" in 2023, and "Atlas" and "Nothin'" on December 2, 2025. All of them were songs Axl Rose had from before the reunion, with Slash and Duff McKagan recording new guitar and bass parts.
In another interview this January, Slash said "Atlas" and "Nothin'" were the last two of those songs and that none were left; the plan was to gather them into one package, and the next record would be all new original material, an actual album. It would be the band's first album since Chinese Democracy in 2008, and the first with Slash, Axl Rose and Duff McKagan together since 1993.
2026 ends with a run from India to Auckland
The reunion tour informally began with a club show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on April 1, 2016. According to Blabbermouth, this summer's run through North American stadiums was its 14th leg. Slash called the U.S. run they had just finished the best since the reunion began, and said the same of the European one.
The band's official site shows 2026 opening in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on April 1, with North America from the end of April to September and Europe in June and July. On October 29 and November 1 the band are very special guests at Aerosmith's California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
The year's last leg is eleven shows, from Bengaluru, India, on November 14 to Auckland, New Zealand, on December 17: two in India, one each in Jakarta and Singapore, six in Australia and one in New Zealand, with Airbourne on the seven Australian and New Zealand dates. There is no Japanese date on the 2026 schedule.
In Japan, a revival hit through a Gundam film
In Japan this year, "Sweet Child O' Mine" was the ending theme of the film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, which opened on January 30. According to Universal Music Japan, the film took more than one billion yen in its first five days and was number one at the Japanese box office, and the song's downloads rose 12,166 percent and its streams 410 percent on the week before, reaching number 13 on Spotify's chart of fastest risers.
The same January 30 brought two Japanese releases from Universal Music: a Japan-only CD single of "Nothin'" and "Atlas" on SHM-CD, and a jewel-case reissue of Greatest Hits, also on SHM-CD.
Slash's 2027 starts with a new album
The year Guns N' Roses step off the road, Slash has another band's record due. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators release their fifth studio album, Flying Blind, worldwide through Gibson Records on February 26, 2027; the music video for the title track came out on October 2.
